Important report on the impact of body image during pregnancy and after birth

The Psychoanalytic Council's registrant Dr Susie Orbach has co-authored an important new report released by the Government Equalities Office.

Two for the price of one looks at the various health and psychological effects that body image can have on pregnant women and new mothers, and shows how body image problems can be unconcsiously transmitted from mother to child.

The report makes the case for midwives and health visitors to routinely talk to mothers about these issues.

Two for the price of one is a significant contribution to the literature on early intervention and mother and baby attachment, and reinforces the shared agreement of pscyhoanalysts, psychologists, neuroscientists, infant researchers and public health professionals that conception to age 2 is a vitally important time in human development.

Early intervention is one of the Psychoanalytic Council's key policy workstreams and further related work will be released later this year by the Council.
